AWAKE: Featured in TIME Magazine

Books

I was so honored to sit down with TIME Magazine to talk about my memoir, AWAKE. My gratitude to Belinda for being an amazing interviewer.

AWAKE is featured in TIME Magazine

In the interview, I opened up about my divorce, the painful unraveling of my marriage, and how purity culture, patriarchy, and religious systems shaped so much of my story.

We also talked about why I no longer go to church, and what it has meant to slowly piece together a new way forward.

Here’s an excerpt from the interview:

“Divorce is not that interesting of a story. It happens to every other one of us. I did not anticipate my marriage going down in flames in that way, but when I got far enough away from the trauma of the way it ended, and I started examining all the bricks that built that house—patriarchy, religious subculture, body shame, gender limitations, purity, culture, misogyny—I started to realize that maybe it just wasn’t such a shock that that house came down. I hope I’ve taken a clear-eyed look at what those bricks are and how they contributed, and how I was complicit.”

It’s never easy to tell these parts of my life out loud, but I wrote AWAKE to hold the truth about what it means to lose everything you thought defined you — and then begin again.

AWAKE: A Memoir releases September 23, 2025, and is available now for pre-order. I cannot wait to put this book in your hands.
